Fine Art Portraits with a 35mm?
Yep.
When I was first getting into portrait photography and talking to other professionals, everyone seemed to preach the 50mm, 85mm, even 100 or 135mm for portraits. A 35 is too wide, too much distortion, they'd say. So, like a Sagittarius, I took their advice (a little), and did my own thing anyway, and got myself a Tamron 35mm 1.4 lens- and I've never regretted it. I was actually inspired to buy this lens by another photographer, Julia Trotti, who has a pretty big YouTube channel where she tries out different equipment for portraits. Her work with this lens was beautiful, and at a fair price- I find it unmatched.
I have taken this lens through full weddings, small elopements, senior portraits, boudoir sessions; through gusty beaches, rain, snow, PA summer heat- I even fell on the ice one time with her- she's good! (My butt was not.) All that to say, if you're curious about a wider lens for your portrait work, I say go for it.
