"Let's just elope."
Thomas never heard such beautiful words come from his fiancée. Two years had been spent trying to plan the perfect wedding, accommodate family & friends' schedules, navigate a global pandemic, and spend, and spend, and spend. They had a weekend getaway planned in March, a quaint cabin in eastern Ohio lovingly called "The Triangle." With no TV, no WIFI, just a wood-burning stove, acoustic guitar, and sounds of nature, it suited the couples' nostalgic love for simplicity. Maya made the final call. "Let's just elope that weekend."
Maya contacted me with her plans, I of course jumped for joy and helped her find an officiant. She was busy trying to find the perfect dress. "Comfortable, vintage/boho, but still says "bridal" she told Michele, the owner of Get Dressed Formals in Leechburg, Pennsylvania. Then there she was. 70s style bell sleeves, sexy open back, lace detail and layers of curve-hugging fabric, it was the perfect mix of easy-to-wear and vintage grace.
The cabin had an upstairs balcony as well as the downstairs main entrance, I saw this as the perfect "first look" opportunity. He didn't even know she was up there!
"I do, too."
The couple exchanged their handwritten vows, the tears flowed (mine), and the deed was done! Thomas packed ingredients for a rustic Italian dinner, and I'm told the newlyweds planned on a hike at nearby Nelson Kennedy Ledges State Park the next morning.. but judging by the amount of wine flowing, I'm not gonna hold them to it.
